Elderberry Syrup

This is the perfect winter elixir when cold season id out in full force. Research has shown elderberry syrup can be an effective way to manage cold and flu symptoms, and it tastes SO much better than another commercial cold/flu syrups.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup dried elderberries
  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 3-4 slices ginger
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 cup honey

Instructions

  • Add the elderberries, cinnamon, and ginger to water and bring up to a boil. Once the water starts to boil, turn the heat down and bring water to a simmer
  • Simmer on the stove for 30 minutes until water is a deep, rich, purple color. Then remove from the heat and let the berries, ginger, and cinnamon steep for p to an hour
  • Strain the berries and herbs with a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth. Let cool to room temperature, and add in the honey. Store in a sanitized glass container for up to a month in the refrigerator
